June 24, 1833: USS Constitution
enters drydock at Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston,
MA, for overhaul. The ship was
saved from scrapping after public support rallied to save the ship following
publication of Oliver Wendell Holmes' poem, "Old Ironsides."
