Seafaring Sunday: A Last Return

November 7, 1504: Christopher Columbus returns to Spain after his fourth and final voyage to the New World. For Europe, the riches are close enough to taste. For the Americas, the horror has only just begun.

Header: "The Departure of Columbus from Palos in 1492" by Emanuel Leutze via the Library of Congress (www.loc.gov/pictures). Many thanks to anonymous for the info ~ 12/9/2010

Ahoy, Pauline! Boy, everybody sure looks clean in that painting... And how "heroic" is that pose the artist has ol' Chris in? I'm sure it looked EXACTLY like that, Pirate Queen... j/k.

Ahoy, Timmy! I know, right? That painting is from the Victorian era so yeah; it's like watching "The Buccaneer" where everyone is clean and pressed in Barataria. Umm... Probably not so much.
