Sea Monsters: Beautiful Jellies

Jellyfish are some of the most beautiful of the ocean's creatures. In some cases, of course, they can be deadly as well. That doesn't mean that we can't appreciate fantastic photography featuring these strange, primordial monsters.

Over at Photography Blogger, Stephanie Kay-Kok has done just that by posting 20 amazing pictures of these frequently ellusive and always hard to photograph critters. Click over and enjoy; sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words...

Although the color of jellies is fascinating, I actually like the black & white pictures more. The shapes of the jellies seem more otherwordly that way.

But the "Finding Nemo" in my brain keeps going "boing, boing, boing..."

That's a really good point, Lou. The black and white pictures also make it easier to envision the structure of the animal without the distraction of those amazing colors.

I love the moon jellies at out local museum; I always think of "Finding Nemo" while standing there watching them behind the glass :)

Those are beautiful, Pauline.

Personally, I hear the buzzing sound of the jellyfish from "SpongeBob squarepants" in my head when I see them, though...
