Seafaring Sunday: A New World Order
August 19, 1812: USS Constitution utterly defeats HMS Guerriere in the Atlantic off the coast of Massachusetts. The sea battle and its outcome stun the Royal Navy and the British people. The U.S. Navy is no longer a joke, but a legitimate international force to be reckoned with. Read more about the battle here at the U.S. Naval History Blog. Huzzah for Old Ironsides!
Ahoy, Pauline! And Huzzah for Old Ironsides! Woo-hoo! Take that, Brits!
ReplyDeleteWait, they are our friends now. Oh well, you know what I mean... ;-)
On a personal note, I know you were feeling sick last night and I hope you are feeling better today, Pirate Queen.
Ahoy, Timmy! And they call Korea America's "lost war".
ReplyDeleteOuch... haha. I guess we deserved a good kicking for being so arrogant at sea for so long. :) Do you happen to know the painter of that picture? I can't read the signature, but I'm in love with that palette!
ReplyDeleteAhoy, Munin! I am always the first to say that the U.S. Navy would never have been able to succeed without paterning itself on the Royal Navy. Greatness often begits greatness.

Would love to see you do something similar, mon ami! :)
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, I'm still a long ways off knowing my way around the structure of wooden ships. I'm getting there though. :)
ReplyDeleteI think you're too humble, as this piece demonstrates:
