Her voyage to Manila would make a great horror movie!

And in all fairness, Timmy!, the painting isn't actually of her. Just an unpleasant looking lady with a dog.Paulinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11730716060906158244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876794033107456809.post-70519160960112897962010-10-28T01:25:50.037-08:002010-10-28T01:25:50.037-08:00What an un-charming lady!

Dona Ysabel's second husband, whose name I cannot track down to my great annoyance, died but her brother Carlos was made Governor of Panama and she lived into her sixties in his palace with a pack of small dogs and doubtless a Native or two to take out her frustrations on. Interestingly, her great-great-nephew was a high ranking local official when Henry Morgan sacked Panama City, which certainly brought familiar atrocities down on the Barreto family if not the Dona herself.Paulinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11730716060906158244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876794033107456809.post-52197021369307393042010-10-27T13:29:57.683-08:002010-10-27T13:29:57.683-08:00Oh, nuts. Is this another historical figure where we don't know the end of the story?

Although I'd bet anything Dona Ysabel died peacefully in her bed at a ripe old age, cheerful, wealthy, and respected. History just seems to work like that.Undinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16214242522330278662noreply@blogger.com
